We are delighted to announce two important updates for the DNS 8D, one for the firmware and the other for the hardware.
The DNS algorithm has evolved significantly since it first appeared in the DNS1000, and today's DNS models are able to remove more noise, more easily, and with fewer artefacts than ever before. We learned a lot while developing the DNS 4 earlier this year, refining the processing yet further to retain a more natural sound when cleaning dialogue in the presence of large amounts of noise, and the DNS 8D now benefits from the same improvements. All DNS 8Ds from serial number 15020 onward have the new firmware installed as standard, while owners of existing units can upgrade them in just moments using a simple update that can be performed wherever they're installed.
We are also upgrading the DNS 8D from serial number 15020 onward to use the latest white OLED displays. These offer improved clarity and, as before, users can adjust the brightness so that units can be operated comfortably in any lighting conditions.
The revised DNS 8D is immediately available, and the price is unchanged. The firmware upgrade is free of charge.
CEDAR's dialogue noise suppression (DNS) technology is used on the highest quality productions and broadcasts to eliminate traffic noise, air conditioning, wind, rain, babble and general background noise from audio. It will help to compensate for unfavourable acoustic conditions and poor microphone placement, and will even suppress excessive reverberation.
It's used to clean up sound for film production, to suppress ambient noise for live broadcasting, to refresh sound libraries, and to enhance speech for audio forensic investigations. It’s an industry standard that has earned a string of awards including an Emmy®, an Academy Award®, an IABM Award® and two Cinema Audio Society Awards.
